Our Story

About Kauspex

Kauspex was born in the karting paddock.

Not in a boardroom, a software company, or a venture capital-backed startup.

Like many karting parents, I spent countless weekends downloading telemetry, comparing sessions, analysing data and trying to work out what to do next. Every session generated more information than I had time to process, yet the pressure to make the right decision before the next outing remained.

And that's where the problem became obvious.

Telemetry systems are excellent at collecting data.

They're far less effective at helping you understand what that data actually means.

As drivers and mechanics, we constantly make setup changes throughout a race weekend. We change gearing. We adjust tyre pressures. We add caster. We move ride heights, track widths and axle positions.

The next session comes around and the kart is faster.

But why?

  • Did the setup change improve performance?
  • Did the driver simply put together a better lap?
  • Was the track quicker?
  • Was there a tow?
  • Did the tyres finally come into their operating window?

Most importantly, what should you do next?

Every race weekend, competitors make decisions that move them forwards or backwards. Sometimes a change unlocks performance. Sometimes it sends the setup completely in the wrong direction.

If you've ever stood in the paddock after a final and realised that the changes you made throughout the day actually made the kart slower, you're not alone.

I certainly have.

The challenge isn't making setup changes. The challenge is understanding whether those changes genuinely worked, why they worked, and what that means for your next decision.

That's why Kauspex exists.

Turning Data Into Decisions

Kauspex is designed to bridge the gap between data collection and decision-making.

Rather than forcing users to spend hours studying traces, graphs and spreadsheets (which there simply isn't enough time to do between sessions anyway) Kauspex automatically analyses telemetry data and transforms it into meaningful, actionable insights.

Our goal is simple:

To help drivers, mechanics, teams and parents understand what happened, why it happened, and what they should do next.

Because collecting data is easy.

Understanding it is where performance is found.

Built on Experience

Kauspex was founded by Chris Rowlands, a PMC Level VI Certified Product Management and Product Marketing professional with more than 25 years of experience in engineering, software development, digital transformation and data-driven decision making.

Chris spent over two decades within a global FTSE 100 engineering company, where he was instrumental in the development of software and digital solutions used by customers around the world. His experience spans product management, global portfolio leadership, corporate strategy, digital transformation and innovation, with a consistent passion for turning complex data into meaningful insights that help people make better decisions.

He later served as Group Chief Operating Officer for a group of UK engineering companies, leading operational, commercial and strategic transformation programmes.

But despite a career spent developing technology and analysing data, the inspiration for Kauspex came from somewhere much closer to home.

For more than four years, Chris has been immersed in grassroots motorsport as chief mechanic, data engineer, strategist and proud dad supporting his son Deno's racing journey.

The same challenge appeared week after week.

There was always more data available than there was time to analyse.

Kauspex was created to solve that problem.

The Story Behind the Name

The name Kauspex originates from the Latin word auspex.

Interestingly, I can't take full credit for the original inspiration.

Many years ago, whilst working for a global engineering company, a colleague proposed "Auspex" as the name for a new digital connected services offering that would help customers turn operational data into meaningful insights. Although the name was ultimately never adopted by the company, it always stuck with me.

The more I learned about its origins, the more fitting it seemed.

In Ancient Rome, an auspex was a respected official whose role was to observe, interpret and advise. Leaders would seek their guidance before making important decisions, relying on their ability to identify patterns, interpret signs and provide direction.

The role of an auspex was not to create information.

It was to make sense of it.

That idea felt remarkably familiar.

Telemetry contains countless signals about driver performance, kart setup and track conditions. The challenge is not gathering the data. The challenge is interpreting it.

By combining the ancient concept of an auspex with a "K" for karting, Kauspex was born.

Today, instead of interpreting omens, Kauspex interprets telemetry.

Our Vision

We believe every competitor should have access to meaningful performance insights, regardless of budget, team size or engineering experience.

Whether you're a parent supporting your child's racing ambitions, a privateer team chasing tenths of a second, or an experienced driver looking for an advantage, you deserve more than raw data.

You deserve answers.

Our vision is to become the most trusted performance intelligence platform in Karting and grassroots motorsport, helping competitors make faster, more confident and better-informed decisions.

Because the fastest way to improve isn't collecting more data.

It's understanding the data you already have.
